My beautiful granddaughter was born on October 30.
I drove up to Santa Cruz in time to be there when she was born.
My daughter's labor was not easy, as you might expect. The hard labor lasted at least 7 hours. Then there was an earthquake. The nurses on the maternity unit are convinced that the earthquake caused all 4 mothers who were there to deliver in less than an hour. It was pretty hectic for them. For me it was wonderful!
Shortly after the quake, from outside the door of the birthing room I could hear Melody's hearty first cries.
I am so lucky that I got to see her when she was minutes old.
