farther or further?
It seems like they can be used interchangeably.
I can't walk any farther.
I can't walk any further.
What is the furthest distance you can throw?
What is the farthest distance you can throw?
The one thing that is odd is that the root of both of them is "far" and never "fur".
The American Heritage DIctionary says that they come from Old English: furthor
