The day before New Zealand

Holiday greetings to everyone.

It's been so long since my last post!
Let's see, what have I been thinking about recently?

I want to do the holidays (Thanksgiving, Christmas) differently in 2007.
I want to see my kids.
I want to decorate.
I know it will be a crazy time because of the usual end of the semester rush, I just need to prepare for it.

I loved the movie Sweet Land (no watches), I hated Babel (5 watches).
I kept thinking of the line that the woman who was shot said "why did we come here?"
The Lives of Others (1 watch) was amazing. Borat (8 watches) was largely unamusing. Watching someone act stupid to make others look stupid is not that much fun. Am I humorless in the same way as my mom? There is that danger-I do take things literally.

I find that if I don't like a movie I have almost nothing to say about it. I really have no interest in rehashing it. The rehash would only cement the unpleasant experience in my mind.
Maybe some of this darkness has to do with the lack of daylight at this time of year.

On the other hand, we are going off to New Zealand tomorrow night. We are hiking the Milford Track, site of part of the Lord of the Rings movie set. I've been told it's been called the most beautiful hike on earth. I think the 4-day trek it is going to be painful. 3/4 days are 12+ miles, a lot of it is up- or downhill. I am in such bad condition. But on the plus side, it is summer there! I guess my biggest hope is that we manage to be on the trail on days when it isn't raining. It rains a lot (!) there.
The website for Wellington says that there are 16 hours of daylight with the sun up for more than 15 hours.

We will be back on January 17. I will post again then.
